PresidentialElection2025/Nicusor Dan wants Gov't with a large parliamentary majority that should include USR (Fritz)

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

Nicusor Dan wants a government with a large parliamentary majority that should include the Save Romania Union (USR), and with Ilie Bolojan as prime minister, USR interim Chairman Dominic Fritz told a press conference on Sunday, stressing that his political formation fully supports these proposals.

'In the coming days [Dan] will have to sit down for discussions, together with us of course, to make this coalition possible. What is clear is that USR is once again acting responsibly, we are ready and prepared to join the government of this country, of course only if this government pledges to carry out the real reforms the people obviously voted for, and if we have a credible prime minister,' Fritz declared.

He stressed that Romania needs a government 'ready to shoulder the difficult decisions that lie ahead.'

'Such is the government we will be part of. I don't think now is the time to talk about a minority government or some other lineup in which some people clean up after the disaster that was left behind, including by the Social Democratic Party. But once again, this is talk for the coming days or weeks, now it is important to count the votes. (...) And once again, as Nicusor Dan said, Romania needs a government with a broad majority and which includes more parties than just the USR and the PNL,' said Fritz.

The USR leader stressed that Romania needs a 'moment of truth'.

'First of all, USR must be part of a government of truth. What Romania needs now is a moment of truth. We will not be part of a deceptive government, and that means, first and foremost, that we must put the numbers on the table. We all need to know, all of Romania, not just those negotiating something in Bucharest, what the country's real financial, budgetary and economic situation is and what the options on the table are for getting out of this situation, so that all Romanians can prosper in a responsible way. For us, as I said, the red line is that this government will have to commit to reforms that change the way politics has worked for too long in Romania, that relate to citizens completely differently and during these discussions we will see how the other partners resonate with these ideas,' added Fritz.

He showed that the USR 'will not support an approach in which the entire burden of pulling Romania out of the economic crisis is borne by the private sector, but that the Romanian state must be put on a diet, where it is overweight.'

He refrained from mentioning any names of USR members who might be part of the future Executive, 'because I would not want to give the impression that these negotiations are about people and political careers, (...) about who will get which portfolio, but once again, now we take up the responsibility of putting together the best team for Romania, and this team will be built together with Nicusor Dan.'
