Europe, celebration and guarantee of freedom, membership must be defended (Union of the Ukrainians of Romania MP)
Deputy Nicolae-Miroslav Petretchi, president of the Union of the Ukrainians of Romania, said on Friday that Europe is 'the cradle of birth, the celebration and the guarantee of freedom' in our country, calling for the defence of our membership, given that 'the dangers that threaten it have reached Romania, in a hybrid form, too'.
'For Romania, Europe is the cradle of our birth, the celebration and guarantee of our freedom, the family to which we have always belonged, through geography, values and destiny. Our ties with the rest of Europe are old and strong. When these ties were lost, any hell was possible here - such as the communist one, which built walls between Western and Eastern Europeans, which broke the unity of Europe for several decades,' Petretchi said in a press release.
He mentioned that 'getting back Europe was made possible through hardship and suffering in Romania'.
'It made unprecedented developments possible in our country. It has brought funds for huge developments at all levels. It modernized our lives at an unprecedented pace. Millions of Romanians enjoy the full benefits of Europe all over Romania. Millions of other Romanians, our brothers and sisters, are enjoying the benefits of Europe in other EU member states. We are free to work and live in any corner of Europe and we are equal in rights and freedoms to all citizens of the continent. Never in our history has Romania been freer, more stable, more protected and more developed. Never have we lived better, freer and more secure. We are everywhere at home and we are everywhere equal to European citizens all over the continent, from east to west,' added the national minorities MP.
According to him, Romanians feel 'natural', 'fulfilled' and 'free' in Europe, so much so that it seems to them that 'Europe's geopolitical recovery is irreversible, it is forever'.
He argued that 'today, more than ever', our country's membership of Europe must be defended.
'It is no longer eternal. The dangers that threaten it have reached Romania, in a hybrid form, too. It is no longer enough to be free to keep Europe alive in Romania. It is not only by pledges of faith and choice words that we defend Europe in this country, but by periodically reconfirming our commitment to European values. On Sunday, May 18, we will again have a choice. This time, between Europe and its enemies. The Europe we belong to needs today our decisive and categorical vote, on May 18. The Europe we belong to needs to be defended on May 18, in the voting booths. If we fail to defend it, our freedoms will vanish like smoke. We believe in Europe, and on Sunday, May 18, we will defend it by voting. Leaving our children the chance to enjoy its charm and strength,' Nicolae-Miroslav Petretchi further conveyed.
