Comoti Insitute to participate in European Space Agency's ExoMars programme
The Comoti - Romanian Research & Development Institute for Gas Turbines will participate in the prestigious ExoMars programme, developed by the European Space Agency, announced the National Authority for Research.
The ExoMars programme, developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with international partners, is a flagship initiative in the field of astrobiology. Its main objectives include searching for traces of past or present life on Mars, investigating variations in the Martian environment, analysing atmospheric gases, and demonstrating technologies necessary for future missions to return samples from Mars.
'We are extremely proud that the Comoti Institute, coordinated by the National Authority for Research, is part of the ExoMars programme. This achievement reflects not only the exceptional competence of the Comoti team but also Romania's commitment to contributing to space exploration and global scientific progress. It is a landmark moment for Romanian research,' said National Authority for Research President Andrei Alexandru.
The programme began with the 2016 mission, which placed the Trace Gas Orbiter satellite into Martian orbit and tested the Schiaparelli landing module. The second stage, planned for launch in 2028, will include the Rosalind Franklin rover, capable of drilling up to two metres into the Martian surface to collect and analyse samples that are undisturbed by cosmic radiation, offering a unique opportunity to explore the biological past of the Red Planet.
