Seven Palestinian patients from Gaza Strip to receive specialist treatment at several hospitals in Bucharest
Seven Palestinian patients from the Gaza Strip - 6 children aged between 4 months and 11 years and one 18-year-old young man - will receive specialist treatment at several hospitals in Bucharest.
On Wednesday, a Romanian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft carried out a medical evacuation mission for 13 Palestinian patients from the Gaza Strip, severely affected by the lack of access to appropriate medical treatment, along with 34 family members, as reported by the Department for Emergency Situations.
Thus, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) aircraft took off from Otopeni Airport around 12:30 PM, heading to Israel - Ilan and Asaf Ramon International Airport, where it landed around 4:30 PM Romanian time.
After boarding the patients and their accompanying family members, as well as conducting a medical evaluation, the plane took off from the airport in Israel at around 6:00 PM Romanian time, heading to Bucharest - 90th Air Transport - Otopeni Base, where it landed around 10:00 PM.
Throughout the transport, medical assistance was provided by a team consisting of two doctors and two nurses from the Emergency Department (UPU-SMURD) of the Bucharest Clinical Emergency Hospital, one doctor and one nurse from MApN, as well as two liaison officers from the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) on board.
Seven patients, including 6 children - aged between 4 months and 11 years, and one adult of 18 years (accompanied by 23 family members) will receive specialist treatment at various hospitals in Bucharest.
Three adult patients (accompanied by 5 family members) are being transferred to Norway with an aircraft from the Romanian Air Force, part of MApN.
Another three patients (together with 6 family members) have been transported to the French Republic with two aircraft made available by the Luxembourg authorities.
The mission was carried out following requests from the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), through Common Emergency Communication and Information System (CECIS), as part of the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism.
The operation was carried out in close collaboration between the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Department for Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, the Coordination Unit of Government Activities in Territories (COGAT), a unit of the Israeli Ministry of Defence, 'Magen David Adom' National Medical Emergency, Disaster, Ambulance and Blood Bank Service, the General Directorate for Social Assistance and Child Protection of the Bucharest City Hall, Habitat for Humanity, and other essential authorities to ensure an efficient and safe operation, DSU mentions.
