Talks in Chisinau for building four new road bridges over Prut River
Romanian transportation officials and their counterparts from the Republic of Moldova discussed, in Chisinau, the initiation of negotiations for signing a memorandum regarding the expansion and modernisation of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in both countries, as well as agreements for the construction of four new road bridges over the Prut River.
'These days, I am once again in Chisinau, where, during the working meeting of the Romania - Republic of Moldova Joint Committee for coordination in the area of transport and transport infrastructure, and in the presence of Mr. Vladimir Bolea - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova, and Secretary of State Nicolai Mindra, I signed, together with Mircea Pascaluta, my counterpart, the Secretary of State for Transport from the Republic of Moldova, the protocol for the final liberalisation of regular passenger transport, removing the requirement for an operational partner,' Secretary of State with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Ionel Scriosteanu announced on his Facebook page.
According to him, during the meeting, several topics from the common priority list for both countries were discussed, such as the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) - the initiation of negotiations for signing a memorandum for the expansion and modernisation of the network in both countries, as well as the initiation of negotiations for agreements to build four new road bridges over the Prut River at: Stanca (RO) - Costesti (MD), Bumbata (RO) - Leova (MD), Falciu (RO) - Leca (MD) and Raducaneni (RO) - Barboieni (MD).
Another topic was the 'Flower Bridge' at Ungheni, the first road bridge at the motorway level over the Prut River from Ungheni, Golaiesti - Zagarancea), an advanced project, whose work start date was established during the last meeting in Chisinau, on April 26, 2025.
'The name of the bridge over the Prut at Ungheni should be 'Flower Bridge,' in honour of the Flower Bridge of 35 years ago (May 1990),' noted the secretary of state.
Coordinated control at Falciu, namely the relaunch of railway transport on the Falciu - Cantemir bridge by reopening the railway line and the Border Crossing Point with coordinated control, was another topic of discussion between Romanian and Moldovan officials.
'Collaboration between Romania and the Republic of Moldova is very good and productive, with the representatives of the counterpart ministry in the Republic of Moldova, and I assure our partners of all our support in improving the quality of infrastructure and transport services. I thank the Romanian negotiation team for achieving this important objective regarding the liberalisation of passenger transport, led by Mr. Foghis George Adrian, Secretary of State with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure,' Scriosteanu added.
