Grindeanu: Port of Constanta must become a main logistics hub for Ukraine's reconstruction

Bucharest, March 4 /Agerpres/ - Transport and Infrastructure Minister Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday that the Port of Constanta must become a main logistics hub for Ukraine's reconstruction.
'I am voicing a personal opinion, that concerning this desire of ours, of mine, of turning the Port of Constanta in a main logistics hub for Ukraine's reconstruction. Ukraine's reconstruction cannot be done without the United States, let's be serious. The reconstruction of Ukraine without the United States I don't see it possible. But, sure, I'm not a big specialist in global strategies. I believe the United States also has an interest in having this favourable environment in the Port of Constanta. And what happened, including a week ago [anti-corruption prosecutors' raids at the seaport], sends an important signal to investors that the Romanian state is concerned with maintaining a healthy environment in the Port of Constanta,' Grindeanu told a press conference held at the Port of Constanta.
Regarding the reconstruction of Ukraine, the Transport and Infrastructure minister underscored that, in addition to the importance of the Port of Constanta, Romania is the EU country with the longest border with Ukraine.
'I expect this period of reconstruction to be one where the United States, in fact I am sure of this, will be the main engine. Of course, we, through what we can offer, because of Romania's strategic position, will also play a role. Let's not forget that Romania has the longest border with Ukraine, of any EU member state, and that's an important thing. Everything we try to invest in and do in the Port of Constanta represents another asset, the second one. The third asset is the investments we're making, investments that few believed in, related to infrastructure in Moldavia and everything being built on the A7, up to the border with Ukraine. Things are moving very well,' the minister added.
According to Sorin Grindeanu, the US military base at Mihail Kogalniceanu, in Constanta County, is another strategic asset in transforming the Port of Constanta into a logistics hub for the reconstruction of Ukraine. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Nona Jalba; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
