Justice minister asks judicial authorities to correctly and impartially conduct investigations in Georgescu, Tate cases
Justice Minister Radu Marinescu, on Friday, asked the judicial authorities to carry out investigations in the cases of Calin Georgescu and the Tate brothers in a 'correct, objective, impartial manner and with respect for the presumption of innocence.'
'Given the great public interest regarding the situation of some high-profile legal cases (the cases involving Mr. Georgescu and Tate), I make the following clarifications: as minister of Justice, I request that the judicial authorities conduct any investigation or carry out any legal procedure aimed at discovering the truth promptly, correctly, objectively, impartially and with respect for the presumption of innocence, as well as for human rights and freedoms,' wrote Radu Marinescu on his Facebook page.
The minister of Justice underscored that Romania is and must remain a rule of law state that respects the principles of the rule of law and has a functional and independent judiciary.
'In this context, as minister, I will never intervene in a judicial procedure, I have no knowledge of the acts and evidence administered in legal cases, and I cannot make judgments about procedural measures or the guilt of individuals. Justice must remain apolitical, independent and impartial,' said Marinescu.
According to the minister of Justice, public interest requires communication from the judicial authorities, but 'within the limits set by the strict requirements of the law.'
