Saint Ana Lake area popular among tourists in winter for sledging
Lacul Sfanta Ana - Tinovul Mohos (Saint Ana Lake - Mohos Bog) area is popular among tourists even during the winter, with people coming from all over the country to admire the picturesque landscape and to practice sledging.
Dósa Elek Levente, director of the 'Pro Szent Anna' (Pro Sfanta Ana in Romanian, Pro Saint Ana in English, editor's note) Association, told AGERPRES that some tourists come to admire the beauty of the area, relax in the fresh air, and hike in nature, while others return every year for sledging, even going all the way to the lake, an activity that is extremely popular.
According to the source, there are two slopes in the area: a shorter one, 150 meters long, towards Mohos Bog, where classic sledging, like in childhood, can be practiced, and another one, about 1,400 meters long, towards the lake, which also includes a sledge towing service with special equipment. Essentially, those who toboggan all the way to the lake are brought back, with their sledge, to the end of the slope.
Dósa Elek Levente explained that people can bring their own sledges, but the towing service is only available for sledges that can be rented on-site, as the equipment is specially designed for them.
'This is an activity that tourists love very much. Many return year after year when we have snow. [...] One sledge is suitable for an adult and a child. I don't know if you can find similar sledges elsewhere in Romania, because we brought them through a company from Germany, but they are made in Switzerland. [...] When we bought them, we considered sledge safety. [...] For towing, we have special equipment. [...] And since the towing equipment is made to fit the rental sledges, we do not tow toboggans from elsewhere,' explained the director of the 'Pro Szent Anna' Association.
Tobogganing is done based on rules to ensure everyone's safety, especially since on Saturdays and Sundays, when the weather allows, hundreds of people come to relax.
According to him, those who come to Lake Saint Ana in winter are both locals and tourists from various parts of the country, such as Bucharest, Buzau, Vrancea, Constanta, but there are even people coming from the Republic of Moldova.
The director of the 'Pro Szent Anna' Association mentioned that the number of tourists was very high during the winter holidays when snow fell, creating a thick snow layer in the area.
Since temperatures have risen in recent days, currently, only classic sledging, towards Mohos Bog, is possible. However, there is hope that the weather will cool down by the weekend and snow will start to fall again.
All interested parties are encouraged to follow the official Facebook page of the 'Pro Szent Anna' Association (https://www.facebook.com/proszentanna), where up-to-date information is constantly posted.
He also urged tourists to come dressed for winter and to be patient with each other and the administrative staff in the area to ensure the best experience possible.
Regarding the presence of bears in the area, Dósa said that they have not been seen since the beginning of December, but this does not mean that they do not live there and that there is no possibility of them appearing if the weather warms up.
He also mentioned that access to the lake's ice is prohibited because it is very thin and could break at any time.
Additionally, access to Mohos Bog is also prohibited until the beginning of the vegetation period, that is until spring. AGERPRES (RO - author: Gina Stefan, editor: Irina Poenaru; EN - editor: Adina Panaitescu)
