MAE travel advisory: Firm recommendation to avoid all non-essential travel to Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) reiterates the firm recommendation to avoid all non-essential travel to the Russian Federation, especially for activities that involve extended periods of stay, such as academic activities, given the current geopolitical context and regional security developments, as well as the restrictions imposed by Moscow on the issuance of visas for European citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on Monday a travel alert in which it recalled the previous messages and "firmly" recommended Romanian citizens to evaluate with full responsibility the risks associated with traveling to the Russian Federation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the potential risks to which Romanian citizens would be exposed in the face of unforeseen situations, such as the unilateral modification of the conditions of stay by the Russian authorities.
At the same time, the MAE recommended that the Romanian citizens present on the territory of the Russian Federation pay increased attention, to avoid places where public gatherings or large crowds of people are present and not to engage in any actions or demonstrations that may generate street violence.
The Ministry reiterated the recommendation previously addressed to Romanian citizens who are on the territory of the Russian Federation to register their presence without delay through the www.econsulat.ro platform, at the address https://www.econsulat.ro/CetateniRomaniInregistrati/Inregistreaza, available both on PC or laptop, as well as from the mobile phone.
Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the telephone number of the Romanian Embassy in Moscow: +7 499 143 0427; +7 499 143 0430, of the General Consulate of Romania in Saint Petersburg: +7812 3126141, the calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center of Romanian Citizens Abroad and taken over by Call Center operators on a permanent basis.
Romanian citizens are also encouraged to regularly consult the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.mae.ro; www.moscova.mae.ro; www.sanktpetersburg.mae.ro) and to use the "Safe Travel" application for updated information regarding travel conditions and safety in the Russian Federation.
The MAE also reiterated the importance of permanent information from safe and official sources and taking all the necessary measures to ensure personal safety. AGERPRES (RO - author: Oana Ghita, editor: Claudia Stanescu; EN - editor: Bogdan Gabaroi)
