Ambassador Mokaddem: There is no secure place in Lebanon; Israel must learn to live in peace with neighbours

There is currently no secure place in Lebanon, and the only solution for diffusing the tension in the Middle East is that Israel "learns to live in peace with its neighbours", the Lebanese Ambassador in Romania, Rana Mokaddem, said on Wednesday in Bucharest.
The ambassadors of the countries in the Arab League and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIM) gathered at the Lebanese diplomatic mission in the Romanian Capital City to send a joint message regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Asked when the war will be over, Rana Mokkadem said: "You must ask Israel, not Lebanon, when the war will be finished ... When there will be a ceasefire, and when they will stop this aggression against Lebanon and against Gaza this will finish."
She claimed that 80Pct of the attacks in the past year belonged to Israel against Lebanon.
"An I know what the press says, but, if you go deeper, you will find that 80pct of the attacks were caused by Israel. These is according to the United Nations," she showed.
"Israel must learn to live in peace with its neighbours, that's the only thing that is needed. This is all we need, respect for the human dignity of the Lebanese, of the Palestinians. If you want to be among us as Arabs and stay in peace in the region, you must respect us and give us our human rights and then everything will be OK after that. When you consider us equals," said the Lebanese Ambassador.
The ambassadors attending the meeting at the Lebanese Embassy made an appeal to the UN Security Council to assume responsibility for maintaining international security and peace and "to start implementing the Resolution on the immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to intervene urgently to ensure a sustainable stability in southern Lebanon through the full implementation of the relevant resolutions, putting a definitive end to Israel's ongoing violations of international law and the constant threats to Lebanon, its civilian populations, facilities and infrastructure".
Diplomats said that over the past year, Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank have killed 42,000 Palestinians and injured more than 90,000, mostly women and children.
"The Arab ambassadors and the OIC condemn Israel's aggression against Lebanon and consider Israel, the occupying power, fully responsible for this dangerous escalation, which threatens the security and stability of the entire region. We consider this attack as an extension of the war crimes that Israel is committing and a violation of international law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations," the joint statement says.
Participating in the meeting were the ambassadors and diplomatic envoys of Palestine, Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Turkey and Tunisia.
Iran's ambassador in Bucharest, Seyed Hossein Sadat Meidani, stated that, unfortunately, there is no ceasefire agreement in the Middle East.
"There have been escalations this year. Iran has been held back for a long time to let politics and diplomacy work. Unfortunately, today we don't have a ceasefire agreement. We don't have any results. We hope that everyone will make efforts for a ceasefire agreement and to end the conflict in the region," the diplomat pointed out.
He said that his country is prepared "for any kind of reaction" and Iran's actions were defensive. AGERPRES (RO - author: Oana Ghita, editor: Mihai Simionescu, EN - author: Cristina Zaharia)
