Bucharest - New York direct flights from June 7, 2024

Romanians will be able to travel directly to the United States of America again, departing from Bucharest, after a break of more than 20 years, after a week ago, HiSky received from the U.S. Department of Transportation the authorisation to operate regular flights to this destination and became the only Romanian company that holds, at the same time, the Foreign Air Carrier Permit and aircraft that gives it the capability for non-stop flights of up to 14 hours.
According to a company press release issued sent to AGERPRES on Friday, HiSky has already put on sale tickets on the Bucharest - New York route, and the first scheduled flight will be operated on Friday, June 7.
Regular flights connecting Henri Coanda airport with the main New York airport, John F. Kennedy, will be operated four times per week, departing from Romania every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and return.
The HiSky aircraft will take off from Bucharest at 8:00 local time and land in New York at 11:25 local time. Thus, passengers who want to go overseas will spend just over 10 hours in flight.
For return flights, the aircraft is scheduled to take off from JFK airport at 13:25 local time to arrive at Otopeni at 6:15 local time.
Tickets are available for two classes of service, and the price of a trip starts from 349 euros for economy class and 1,899 euros for business class. Catering will also be available on board the aircraft, with a hot meal and a snack included in the cost of the ticket for each passenger.
"We are extremely proud to officially become the first company to resume this strategic route after more than 20 years. From June, on the Arrivals-Departures board of Otopeni airport we will see, once again, the destination New York. (...)," HiSky Director General Iulian Scorpan said.
The Bucharest Otopeni - New York, JFK, flights will be operated by Airbus A330-200, the first wide-body aircraft in the HiSky fleet and the only one of its kind registered in Romania.
The aircraft, which allows the company to operate non-stop flights over this distance, landed in Bucharest earlier this week. During the trip, passengers will have access to on-board multimedia content available on the aircraft entertainment system.
Since the inauguration of the Bucharest hub a year and a half ago, Henri Coanda airport has become HiSky's main operation base. From Bucharest, passengers can travel with HiSky on eight regular international routes to Brussels, Barcelona, Malaga, Dublin, Chisinau, Bordeaux, Tel Aviv and Frankfurt and on two domestic routes to Cluj Napoca and Timisoara.
In Romania, the airline also operates regular flights from the airports of Iasi, Baia Mare, Cluj Napoca and Timisoara, as well as charter flights, in partnership with major travel agencies.
According to the ranking of the number of passengers carried, HiSky ranks fourth among the airlines operating in Romania. AGERPRES (RO - editor: Oana Tilica; EN - editor: Adina Panaitescu)
