Mid-air collision cancels air show in north-eastern Romania

Bucharest, Aug 4 /Agerpres/ - The "Suceava Air Show" has been canceled after two small aircraft collided in mid-air early on Saturday at Fratautii Vechi (north-eastern Romania) and one of the pilots died, the prefect of Suceava, Mirela Adomnicai, told AGERPRES.
The prefect said that, following the crash, prosecutors are investigating the scene.
''The event has been canceled. Prosecutors with the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Suceava Court of Appeal are investigating the crash scene. A pilot has died and the other was seriously injured and will be transported to Iasi. That is all I know. A pilot is allegedly from Bucharest and the other one from Timisoara," the prefect said.
Two light aircraft crashed in the air early on Saturday during training over Fratautii Vechi in Suceava County, an incident which resulted in the death of one of the pilots, announced the Inspectorate General for Emergencies (IGSU).
According to the IGSU, after the collision, both planes crashed off the runway, with the pilots remaining stuck in the cockpits.
The "Stefan cel Mare" International Airport Suceava was to host the seventh edition of the Suceava Air Show, organized in cooperation with the County Council, on Saturday.
