Fountain pen dedicated to Her Majesty Margareta, launched at the Royal Palace - Pelikan limited edition

Image

The fountain pen of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, a limited edition created in collaboration with the Romanian Royal House, was launched on Thursday evening by Herlitz Romania under the Pelikan brand, at the National Museum of Art of Romania.

'We warmly congratulate you for this achievement and hope it will inspire people to write more with fountain pens rather than other instruments. This is something King Michael would have been delighted to know - that his Romanians prefer writing with fountain pens. Queen Marie herself was a great admirer of handwriting, and we could never find a nib as broad as the one she used. I do not believe such nibs are made anymore, but she was a true devotee of the fountain pen,' remarked Prince Radu of Romania.

Herlitz Romania's General Manager, Horatiu Nicolau, who presented Her Majesty Margareta with the '001' numbered pen, described the piece as 'a pen of the soul and with soul'.

The launch, held in the Royal Palace Dining Room in the presence of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown, and Princess Sofia, was attended by representatives of civil society, the political and economic spheres, as well as journalists.

***
According to the manufacturer, the project was initiated over two years ago, with the visit of Prince Radu and representatives of the Royal House to the Pelikan factory in Germany in April 2023 marking the consolidation of the collaboration. Since then, the Herlitz Romania team, Pelikan designers in Germany, and the Romanian Royal House have worked together to create the fountain pen.

A collector's piece, the pen was manufactured in Germany at Pelikan's Vohrum factory, with Her Majesty Margareta actively involved in the design process, approving the colour palette, symbols, motto, and visual identity. She personally chose the shade of royal blue and the inclusion of the Crown's seal and motto.

The body, made of high-quality resin polished with natural diamonds, acquires a unique shine over time, becoming more valuable with use. The pen's royal blue hue is complemented by a darker cap adorned with 24K gold-plated details. It features a 14K gold nib with an iridium tip, rhodium decoration, and exceptional filigree engraving, available in size M.

'Three distinct elements give this fountain pen profound significance. The royal motto Nihil Sine Deo, engraved on the gold-plated ring, evokes faith, continuity, and the strength of spiritual and moral values. The seal of Her Majesty Margareta, embedded in the body and reproduced in 24K gold, certifies authenticity and underlines the official nature of the edition. Finally, Her Majesty's signature, rendered in gold powder, bestows each piece with a personal and emotional value, transforming it into a collector's item of unique resonance,' the company stated.

The edition is limited to 700 individually numbered pens, from 1/700 (belonging to Her Majesty) to 700/700. Each comes with a bottle of Pelikan 4001® royal blue ink, completing a creation of both historic and symbolic worth.

The pens will be available through Herlitz Romania's authorised partners and the official platform www.herlitz.ro at a price of 5,500 lei, with proceeds directed towards restoration works at Peles Castle.

Herlitz Romania continues the initiative begun in 2019, when it launched a world-premiere fountain pen honouring King Michael I of Romania - a rare piece with a special design, carefully chosen symbols, and masterful workmanship, under the highly exclusive 'King Michael I of Romania - Royal Edition' series, Pelikan, with an 18K gold nib and included ink bottle. For the first time, Pelikan dedicated a special edition (300 pieces) to a personality. The first exemplar was presented to Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown, who decreed it remain the 'King's Pen' and placed it on display at Peles Castle.
