Enescu Festival: New opera and ballet performances, concert versions, in upcoming programme

New opera and ballet performances, concert versions of operas and symphonic productions incorporating contemporary dance are scheduled in the coming days as part of the 'George Enescu' International Festival.

Highlights of the Upcoming Programme:

* Friday, 22:30, Romanian Athenaeum
The renowned Accademia Bizantina and Purcell Choir, under the musical direction of celebrated harpsichordist Ottavio Dantone, will present the baroque opera 'Il trionfo della fama, serenata per musica' in one act by Francesco Bartolomeo Conti, according to the event website.

* Sunday, 13:00, Radio Hall
Mozart's The Magic Flute will be performed by Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, conducted by Tarmo Peltokoski, with the Chorwerk Ruhr choir led by Michael Alber.

* Sunday, Romanian Athenaeum
Conductor Arnaud Arbet will lead the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Endgame by György Kurtág, marking 99 years since the birth of the Romanian-born composer.

* 11 September, 17:00, Romanian Athenaeum
Breaking Bach - a choreographic reinterpretation of baroque music - will be presented by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and British choreographer Kim Brandstrup.

* 14 September, 19:00, Sala Palatului (Palace Hall)
Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Op. 29, will be performed by the National Radio Orchestra conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero, with the Academic Radio Choir led by Ciprian Sutu. World-renowned soprano Kristine Opolais will sing the role of Katerina Izmailova, joined by an elite international cast.

* 15 September, 19:00, Bucharest National Opera
Enescu's masterpiece Oedipe will be staged in a monumental production directed by Stefano Poda, a renowned Italian stage director and visual artist.
Conductor Tiberiu Soare will lead a distinguished cast, including baritone Ionut Pascu (Oedipus), mezzo-sopranos Ruxandra Donose (Jocasta) and Ramona Zaharia (the Sphinx), bass Vazgen Gazaryan (High Priest), tenor Paul Curievici (Laius), and bass Adrian Sampetrean (Creon), along with soloists of the Bucharest National Opera.

* 17 September, 20:00, Palace Hall
Legendary conductor Ivan Fischer leads the Budapest Festival Orchestra in a hybrid event: The Miraculous Mandarin, Sz. 73 by Béla Bartók, brought to life with expressive dance by the Eva Duda Dance Company, in a high-impact visual and musical synthesis. The evening continues with another Bartók masterpiece - the opera Bluebeard's Castle, Sz. 48.

* 29 August, at Bucharest National Opera, Ravel's L'heure espagnole was staged in a production by Tompa Gábor.
* 1 September, at the Palace Hall, Richard Strauss' Salome, Op. 54, was performed by the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, conducted by maestro Cristian Macelaru. Soprano Jennifer Holloway starred in the title role.
