The Danube Delta was declared "Travel Destination of the Year" in the Eco-tourist Regions category of the 2024 Travel Destination competition organized on the namesake platform, which was judged by over 200 experts; a sociological survey also contributed to this result, the Institute for Visionary Cities (IOV) said in a release.

Following the Danube Delta in the ranking is Tara Dornelor in the northern Carpathians and, third, with a tied score, are Tara Hategului and the Tusnad spa and surroundings region.

"Hundreds of thousands of public votes on the platform destinatiaanului.ro, a jury made of over 200 experts, and an extensive sociological survey decided this year's ranking in the 12 categories of the competition (...) which included, in a first this year, destinations from the Republic of Moldova; from the neighboring country, the best placed location in the final ranking was the village of Valeni, Cahul district, which won the Republic of Moldova Destination of 2024 special award," the cited source said.
