"Pandemia.md" film, screened for the first time at Peasant Museum's cinema halls
Feature film "Pandemia.md," directed by Valeriu Jereghi was shown for the first, on Monday, at the Peasant Museum's cinema hall in the Capital City Bucharest, in the presence of the director, producer Sergiu Pascaru, as well as some of the actors.
The subject of the film reflects the period of quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic, in which a well-known film director, together with his family, retreats to a village in the Republic of Moldova, where he is confronted with a harsh reality dominated by immorality.
The director and his family leave the city and take refuge in the country during the entire period of the quarantine imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Moldova. There, facing the new realities of life, the director conceives a film about man's creative mission in the modern world, where, more recently, immorality and lack of spirituality dominate. The artist, who dedicated his entire creation to humanity, is forced to accept an open confrontation with a new destructive force for civilization, according to the presentation of the film.
Present at the event, the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest, Victor Chirila, said that the film is "a cinematic essay that addresses current issues of our society, but also sketches portraits and exceptional characters placed in times of restriction."
The director, Valeriu Jereghi, confessed that he wanted the film "Pandemia.md" to be "a fresco of the present time in the Republic of Moldova."
"Our pandemic, the everyday one, a special pandemic, we lived it like a real quarantine. We felt on our skin what quarantine means, we, those who need socialization, contact with society and were isolated. And instead of the people in my life, these characters began to appear. Slowly, these characters entered the film. I could have made a series with several episodes, but I made a more compact film, only two hours long, and I really wanted it, and I asked the team for a special attitude towards this film, to be like a fresco of our times in the Republic of Moldova today," said Valeriu Jereghi, at the end of the screening at the Peasant Museum.
Olivia Furtuna, who plays the role of Ana, said that the film "Pandemia.md" is "a metaphorical film" with humorous notes specific to Bessarabia.
"Maestro Jereghi's film is also a metaphorical film, and in addition to a Balkan feeling, it also has notes of humor specific to Bessarabia, a county that went through a lot, and it's still facing a hard time. Our humor also comes with a large dose of sadness at the same time and I was wondering how the people of Bucharest will react to it, how they will perceive this film. But the emotions in the hall and the reactions said everything. Congratulations to the director for managing to bring the show beyond the stage, the screen, here, today, and on the other side of the border," said Olivia Furtuna.
The actors Maria Ploae, Nicolae Jelescu, Olivia Furtuna, Emilia Jereghi, Ronin Terente, Nicolae Margineanu, Rada Ixari were part of the film team present at the Bucharest premiere.
The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest, in partnership with the Romanian Peasant Museum.
The film was made by the Production House "Pascaru Production," with the financial support of the National Cinematography Centre of the Republic of Moldova, in co-production with MAYA FILMS (Romania) and MEDIA BIRLII (ATO Gagauzia).
