PNL is open to voting Niculescu Gov't but does not intend to rule with PSD (Bolojan)

The PNL does not intend to participate alongside the PSD in the government proposed by Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu, but is open to granting it an 'investiture vote,' with a final decision to be made next week, PNL President and Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Thursday.

'I listened to Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu's intentions regarding the governing program and the objectives he proposes. From this perspective, the commitment to meeting deficit targets and adhering to the trajectory Romania has assumed for the coming year is important, not merely for the sake of a specific budgetary target, but because it is a condition for maintaining overall budgetary balance, ensuring the proper functioning of state institutions, and revitalizing the Romanian economy,' Bolojan stated after meeting with the prime minister-designate.

According to him, the possibility of PNL participating in the Luca Niculescu Government was discussed.

'I informed Mr. Luca Niculescu that the PNL does not intend to participate in this government. Based on our experience over the past year, we have decided not to participate in governments alongside the Social Democratic Party in the current political context; if that party is part of the government, the PNL will go into opposition,' Ilie Bolojan specified. The liberal leader informed the prime minister-designate that 'the PNL is open to voting to install this government.'

'I informed Mr. Luca Niculescu that the PNL is open to voting to install this government, given the situation Romania is facing and the need for a government with full powers that can, on the one hand, act to address current budgetary emergencies, ensure the proper functioning of state services through a budget revision, and implement measures to curb spending so as to meet our targets; and, of course, prepare next year's budget so that Romania can enter a period of economic recovery and the gains achieved through the efforts of all Romanians this year are not lost,' Bolojan said.

He noted that the PNL would make a decision next week.

'Depending on the program he finalizes and the proposed composition of this government, we will convene the PNL National Political Bureau next week, and likely hold another discussion with Mr. Luca Niculescu, to make a decision regarding the status of this government and the PNL's position toward it,' Ilie Bolojan added.
