PSD's Grindeanu: Latest nomination for PM continues to defy parliamentary mathematics
Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Sorin Grindeanu said that President Nicusor Dan's latest nomination for prime minister 'continues to defy parliamentary mathematics' and announced that the Social Democrats will hold a meeting of the National Standing Bureau on Tuesday to discuss the proposal.
'The president's new nomination for prime minister continues to defy parliamentary mathematics. After four right-wing prime ministers have failed, we are seeing a new nomination that does not take into account the party that won the election. It is the president's choice. The Social Democratic Party makes its own decisions. That is why we will hold a meeting of the National Standing Bureau tomorrow to discuss this proposal,' Sorin Grindeanu wrote on his Facebook page on Monday evening.
He added that Romania urgently needs a government to change the country's wrong course, carry out the budget revision and prepare the budget for 2027.
'But the PSD will not participate and will not give blank cheques for a political arrangement that would amount to yet another political adventure. The prime minister-designate must publicly say what he wants the government to look like and what the main measures he has in mind are for reviving the economy and protecting people's purchasing power, while maintaining the deficit targets. Otherwise, if the prime minister-designate continues to support Bolojan's austerity policies, I believe there will be no other way to put Romania back on the right track than to hold snap elections. I want us to put an end to Romania's caretaker governments,' Sorin Grindeanu said.
President Nicusor Dan on Monday evening designated Luca Niculescu, a Secretary of State with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to form the government, following new consultations with the parliamentary parties and political groups held at Cotroceni Palace.
This is the fourth nomination for prime minister since the Bolojan Government was dismissed by a no-confidence vote on May 5. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Dana Piciu; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
