President Nicusor Dan welcomes newly appointed ambassadors at Cotroceni Palace, focuses on economic ties
President Nicusor Dan received several ambassadors at Cotroceni Palace on Friday for the presentation of their letters of credence, including diplomatic representatives from Canada, Denmark, Iran and Serbia, with whom he also discussed bilateral economic relations, the Presidential Administration said.
The ambassadors-designate received by the president were Le Vinh Thang of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Khalid bin Eid Al-Shammari of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Seyed Mohsen Emadi of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Hur Seung-chul of the Republic of Korea; Dragan Simeunovic of the Republic of Serbia; Chaouki Chemmam of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria; Stig Paolo Piras of the Kingdom of Denmark; Alex Wetzig Abdale of the Republic of Chile; Amangeldy Sainov of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Kevin Rex of Canada; Phuchphop Mongkolnavin of the Kingdom of Thailand; Yacouba Cisse of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire; Javier Enrique Caraballo Salazar of the Republic of Panama; Chea Chanboribo of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Gabriel Orellana Zabalza of the Republic of Guatemala; Kennedy Obed Reyes Lazo of the Republic of El Salvador; and Theresa Adjei-Mensah of the Republic of Ghana.
During his meeting with Vietnam's Ambassador-designate Le Vinh Thang, Nicusor Dan welcomed the dynamic bilateral relationship and underscored Vietnam's longstanding role as a traditional economic and trade partner of Romania.
At the meeting with Saudi Arabia's Ambassador-designate to Romania Khalid bin Eid Al-Shammari, the two sides highlighted Saudi Arabia's role as a key Romanian partner in the Middle East and Gulf region, as well as their interest in giving fresh momentum to bilateral ties.
In talks with Iranian Ambassador-designate Seyed Mohsen Emadi, the two sides reiterated the importance of finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict in the region in order to ease tensions and strengthen regional stability.
President Nicusor Dan and South Korean Ambassador-designate Hur Seung-chul highlighted excellent cooperation in the defense industry, civilian nuclear energy and infrastructure.
Talks between Nicusor Dan and Serbian Ambassador-designate Dragan Simeunovic focused on advancing major connectivity projects of importance to both countries in transport and energy, including the Timisoara-Belgrade motorway and the Arad-Mokrin gas pipeline. The role of the Romanian minority in Serbia and the Serbian minority in Romania in bringing the two countries closer together was also an important topic on the agenda.
During his talks with Algerian Ambassador-designate Chaouki Chemmam, the president welcomed the continued interest of Algerian students in pursuing university studies in Romania, highlighting the two countries' strong and longstanding educational ties.
At his meeting with Danish Ambassador-designate Stig Paolo Piras, discussions focused on security in the Black Sea and the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine. The two sides reaffirmed their shared assessment of security on NATO's eastern flank and the main threats facing Europe and NATO. EU enlargement was also discussed, with Nicusor Dan underscoring Romania's commitment to Moldova's European path, alongside that of the other candidate countries.
President Nicusor Dan told Chilean Ambassador-designate Alex Wetzig Abdale that Romania was interested in deepening bilateral ties by boosting trade and investment and expanding cooperation in areas including cybersecurity, connectivity, agriculture, culture, research and education.
Talks with Kazakh Ambassador-designate Amangeldy Sainov highlighted the significant potential for developing economic cooperation by encouraging investment and diversifying bilateral trade. The Romanian side welcomed the principled position of the Kazakh authorities regarding the obligation of all states to respect the principles of international law.
During Nicusor Dan's meeting with Canadian Ambassador-designate Kevin Rex, the priorities of the Enhanced Partnership between Romania and Canada were presented. The two sides highlighted security cooperation, including Canada's participation in the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Group, nuclear energy projects at Cernavoda, and the establishment of the Defense, Security and Resilience Bank.
At his meeting with Thai Ambassador-designate Phuchphop Mongkolnavin, the two sides expressed their desire to strengthen economic cooperation by increasing trade and investment and diversifying sectoral cooperation, particularly in education, technology and cybersecurity.
During talks with Côte d'Ivoire's Ambassador-designate Yacouba Cisse, the two sides stressed the importance of diversifying sectoral cooperation in areas including ports, oil and investment.
At his meeting with Panama's Ambassador-designate Javier Enrique Caraballo Salazar, Nicusor Dan reaffirmed Romania's commitment to expanding cooperation with Central American countries and expressed openness to deepening ties with Panama through increased trade and reciprocal investment.
The two sides also expressed interest in diversifying cooperation in the economic sphere, as well as in the cultural and academic sectors.
In talks with Cambodian Ambassador-designate Chea Chanboribo, both sides highlighted excellent cooperation in multilateral frameworks, including the International Organisation of La Francophonie. In this context, Nicusor Dan congratulated the Cambodian side on hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit in November this year, where Romania is running for the position of Secretary General of the organisation.
During his meeting with Guatemalan Ambassador-designate Gabriel Orellana Zabalza, Nicusor Dan underscored Romania's interest in cooperation in education, agriculture, cybersecurity and technology.
At his meeting with El Salvador's Ambassador-designate Kennedy Obed Reyes Lazo, the president expressed Romania's openness to cooperation in the academic, IT, cybersecurity and research fields.
During talks with Ghanaian Ambassador-designate Theresa Adjei-Mensah, the two sides agreed on the importance of efforts to accelerate and diversify bilateral cooperation, particularly in education, energy, cybersecurity, IT and institutional reform.
