The Danube reached, on Thursday, the lowest historical flow in the last 30 years, namely 1750 cubic meters/s, with a downward trend for the next 4-5 days, reaching the level of 1700 cubic meters/s, according to official forecast.

According to the National Romanian Waters Administration, the current flow of the Danube at Bazias is comparable to the minimum value recorded in 2003 when the Danube reached the flow of 1650 cubic meters/s. The lowest flow recorded by the Danube was in 1985 when it had 1400 cubic meters/s at the entrance to the country.

'Currently, for this reason, restrictions on (irrigation) use have been imposed on the Calarasi-Cernavoda sector, namely stage III of restrictions, which means the supply of water with reduced flows for irrigation', emphasizes the cited source.

Starting Monday, July 20, due to the forecasted precipitation in the Danube river basin, the flow of the Danube at the entrance to the country will have an increasing trend and will reach 1900 mc/s.

With the high temperatures and the decrease in levels on the Danube, the algal bloom phenomena may increase. The National Administration Romanian Waters monitors, through the Danube River Basin Administrations and the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management, the evolution of the Danube flows and, together with Hidroelectrica, they are taking measures to maintain minimum flows on the Danube to ensure nuclear energy production, the press release states.
