President: I reaffirm our strong support for recognition of Ukraine's de facto borders and territorial integrity
President Nicusor Dan said on Wednesday in Kyiv that Romania reaffirms its support for the international recognition of Ukraine's de facto borders and territorial integrity.
President Nicusor Dan is attending the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit.
'Today, the Ukrainian people are defending their history with their own lives, protecting not only their territory, but also the values of freedom, international law, democratic elections and national sovereignty. It is therefore my privilege, on behalf of Romania, to reaffirm today, in Kyiv, our strong support for the international recognition of Ukraine's de facto borders and territorial integrity, as well as our commitment to long-term stability. A safe Europe and a stable global order are impossible without a sovereign and secure Ukraine. We stand with Ukraine in its struggle for its history, sovereignty and future, and we support the sovereignty of all our nations,' Romania's President said.
Wednesday also marks the Day of Ukrainian Statehood.
'When we celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, we recognise a fundamental truth: Ukraine has existed, exists and will continue to exist. Romania, as Ukraine's neighbour, a true friend and your strategic partner, a state that has endured the same hardships of history in our complex region, can say this with complete conviction, recognising that a nation's true history is essential to maintaining stable borders and the global order,' Nicusor Dan said.
He added that the same applies to cultural heritage.
'A nation's wealth is not measured solely through the achievements of its majority or a select few elements, but through the contribution of the many ethnolinguistic communities that have shaped its identity throughout history. These communities are not remnants of the past, nor are they obstacles to national cohesion, but an integral part of a historical and cultural heritage that must be preserved, respected and allowed to flourish,' President Dan underscored.
