Romania ranked first at the Balkan Physics Olympiad
Romanian students won two gold medals and two silver medals at the Balkan Physics Olympiad, securing first place overall for Romania based on the total points earned, the Ministry of Education and Research announced on Tuesday.
Vlad Toncu, a student at the 'Tudor Vianu' National College of Computer Science in Bucharest, won the First Absolute Prize and a gold medal, achieving a perfect score of 100/100 points; Robert Catalin Paulet, a student at the International Computer High School of Bucharest, also won the First Absolute Prize and a gold medal, with a perfect score of 100/100 points; Luca Mihai Buzea, a student at the 'Tudor Vianu' National College of Computer Science in Bucharest, won a silver medal and Vlad Andrei Bautu, a student at the 'Mircea cel Batran' National College in Constanta, also won a silver medal.
The competition took place June 27-30 in Istanbul, Turkey, with the participation of 13 countries.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research, the Olympiad was coordinated by the Directorate for Olympiads, Competitions, Partnerships, and Extracurricular Education, through Elisabeta Ana Nagy.
The Ministry of Education and Research supports Romania's national teams participating in international Olympiads by covering participation fees, travel expenses, and daily allowances during their stay, as well as by organising and conducting the preliminary stages leading up to the international competitions, including local, county, municipal, and national rounds.
