National Bank issues coins marking 50 years since Nadia Comaneci's Olympic perfect 10
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will release for numismatic purposes, on May 28, 2026 a gold coin, a silver coin and a copper-plated tombac coin marking 50 years since gymnast Nadia Comaneci received the first perfect 10 in Olympic history, the central bank said.
The gold coin's obverse shows Nadia Comaneci at the end of her routine, the inscription 'ROMANIA' in a circular arc, the face value '100 LEI', the year of issue - 2026 and Romania's coat of arms.
The silver coin's obverse carries the same image, with a face value of 10 LEI.
The copper-tombac coin's obverse also features Comaneci, with a face value of 1 LEU.
The common reverse depicts Comaneci performing on the uneven bars, along with her competition number and the score displayed on the official electronic board, and the arc-shaped inscriptions 'PRIMA NOTA DE 10 / FIRST SCORE OF 10', 'MONTREAL 1976' and 'NADIA COMANECI'.
All three coins come in transparent capsules with presentation brochures and certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French, signed by the BNR governor and the chief cashier.
Approved mintages are 200 pieces for the gold coin, 1,000 for the silver coin and 2,000 for the copper-plated tombac coin.
Sale prices are 7,800 RON for the gold coin, 1,000 RON for the silver coin and 280 RON for the copper-plated tombac coin, each including VAT, the brochure and the certificate of authenticity.
The coins have legal tender status in Romania. They will be available through the BNR's regional branches in Bucharest, Cluj, Constanta, Dolj, Iasi and Timis. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: George Banciulea; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
