TIFF 2026 to feature strong international lineup, including Game of Thrones actor Aidan Gillen
The organizers of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF), which runs in Cluj-Napoca over June 12 - 21, announce a spectacular anniversary-edition program featuring numerous international guests, including Irish actor Aidan Gillen, known for his roles in Game of Thrones, The Wire and Peaky Blinders.
Gillen will serve on the Official Competition jury and will attend screenings of two of his newest films.
TIFF founder and director Tudor Giurgiu said on Thursday at a press conference that this year's edition is expected to draw a record number of spectators.
'It felt important this year to make a declaration of love to our audience, those who return to TIFF year after year, mostly from Cluj but also many who come regularly from other cities or from abroad. (...) In 2002, at the first edition, we had 8,700 viewers. In recent years we have exceeded 100,000 paying spectators. They are the ones who give the festival its color,' Giurgiu said.
TIFF.25 will bring 204 films to Cluj - 172 feature films and 32 shorts - from dozens of countries across all continents.
The official selection includes productions from Kazakhstan, Uruguay, South Africa, Hong Kong and numerous European countries, in what organizers describe as one of the most diverse lineups in the festival's history.
Beyond screenings, TIFF.25 features a series of special events designed to enrich the audience experience.
A highlight of the edition will be the dance performance 'Notte Morricone', inspired by the music of Ennio Morricone and created by the Terballetto Company together with choreographer Marcos Morau.
The festival will also host several major exhibitions. At the Museum of Art, an exhibition dedicated to Marilyn Monroe will be displayed, marking 100 years since the actress's birth. The same venue will host a special exhibition dedicated to Nadia Comaneci, built around images and archival material used for the documentary currently in production by the TIFF team.
TIFF organizers confirmed that Nadia Comaneci will attend TIFF.25, where audiences will be able to watch a 15 - 20-minute preview of the documentary about the former Olympic champion's life, directed by Tudor Giurgiu, together with Tudor Popescu and Cristian Pascariu.
