Royal House to be awarded 'Olympic Excellence' Order, at Elisabeta Palace

Custodian of the Romanian Crown Margareta on Wednesday will receive the 'Olympic Excellence' Order, awarded to the Romanian Royal House on the occasion of its 160th anniversary.

According to a press release the Royal House sent to AGERPRES, on Wednesday at 16:00, the Custodian of the Crown, alongside Prince Radu, will welcome at Elisabeta Palace a delegation of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee led by COSR president Mihai Covaliu.

Prince Radu and COSR president Mihai Covaliu will deliver speeches.

The event will begin with a ceremony in the Hall of Kings and will continue with a reception in the palace's Grand Dining Room.

The 'Olympic Excellence' Order is an honorary distinction established in 2020 by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR), following a proposal by president Mihai Covaliu.

The distinction rewards individuals, institutions or organisations that have made major contributions and shown outstanding merit in supporting and promoting the Olympic Movement.

Among the personalities and institutions honoured over the years are former athlete Ilie Floroiu (the first laureate, in 2022), the Romanian Boxing Federation (on the occasion of its centenary, in 2026), Valeria Racila van Groningen, Marius Urzica, coach Artur Hoffmann, Ovidiu Garbacea and Filip Stoica.
