Chamber of Deputies to hold 'Open Doors' event on International Children's Day
The Chamber of Deputies is organizing on 1 June the 'Open Doors' event on the occasion of International Children's Day.
The institution will be open free of charge between 10:00 and 17:00 to children and their accompanying adults, with access through entrance C1 from the 'United Nations' Boulevard.
Visitors will be able to explore some of the Chamber of Deputies' representative spaces, including the 'I.I.C. Bratianu,' 'Take Ionescu,' 'Unirii,' 'I.G. Duca,' 'Mihai Viteazul' and 'C.A. Rosetti' halls, as well as the Hall of Honour, the Press Gallery, the plenary Chamber of the legislative body and the office of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, according to a Chamber of Deputies press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
The programme includes numerous educational and recreational activities dedicated to children: theatre and magic shows performed by the 'Ambasadorii' Theatre and the Comic Opera for Children, meetings with fantasy characters, stilt walkers, face painting and origami workshops organised by UNICEF and World Vision, inflatable slides, prize games and a photo booth, a concert by the military band of the 'Michael the Brave' 30th Guards Brigade, as well as spectacular drill team demonstrations featuring weapon handling exercises carried out by soldiers of the same brigade and representatives of the Romanian Gendarmerie.
Children will also have dedicated sports areas for martial arts, chess, archery, rugby, gymnastics, table tennis, handball, basketball, drone football, motor sport and golf, set up together with sports federations and clubs. At the same time, young football fans will be able to admire the European Champions Cup won 40 years ago by Steaua Bucharest, take part in competitions and enjoy surprise appearances by sports personalities, the quoted source mentioned.
The event will also feature displays of equipment and special technical gear, including helicopters, drones, flight simulators and VR headsets, with demonstrations provided by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), as well as a flyover specially arranged for participants. Children will also have access to educational activities on road safety and online safety through the 'Traffic Town.' Motorsport enthusiasts will be able to see tuned cars and competition vehicles on display.
Throughout the day, visitors will also have access to the food court area set up in the inner courtyard facing the Izvor Park, with support from CREART.
At the same time, at the 'Ion Ratiu' Sports Base within the Palace of Parliament, a tennis competition dedicated to children will be organised between 25 May and 1 June. The 'Young Champions Tournament' will offer prizes consisting of sports equipment, items and vouchers. Registrations are made online at baza.sport@cdep.ro until 20 May.
