PM-designate Tomac: I place great hope in PNL's fair and honest assessment for a vote of confidence
Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac said on Monday, after a meeting with National Liberal Party (PNL) leaders, that he places great hope in a fair and honest assessment, in line with the expectations of Romanian citizens, so that the National Liberal Party will grant him a vote of confidence.
He said that he will finalise the list of ministers on Wednesday and that the new administration will be a technical government based on specialists with no party affiliation.
'I had a meeting with the leadership of the National Liberal Party. I presented the objectives of the Cabinet that I will propose. These objectives stem from Romania's current priorities. Unfortunately, time is pressing. We are facing an extremely tense and challenging international context and a series of urgent issues arising from Romania's current commitments - the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the milestones and the need to implement the necessary reforms so that Romania can receive the funds available from the European Union, whether grants or loans. The deadline for the final payment request is 30 September. We must also be prepared this autumn to make the first drawdown under the SAFE programme. We have an obligation, in order to send a signal of responsibility, to prepare the future budget within the deadlines set by law. I place great hope in a fair and honest assessment, in line with the expectations of Romanian citizens, from my colleagues in the National Liberal Party so that they will give me a vote of confidence,' Tomac said at the PNL headquarters.
According to him, the pressures are enormous and he hopes that political parties, regardless of their grievances or legitimate expectations, will give him the opportunity to provide Romania with a competent and well-prepared government capable of meeting the challenges the country is faced with.
'I leave this meeting confident. Mr Bolojan has launched a series of important reforms and they must continue and I am ready to carry forward with a great sense of responsibility the path which Romania is following,' Tomac added.
