Tulcea County organic farming, close to EU Action Plan target
Approximately 24% of the total arable land area in Tulcea is cultivated under the organic system, meaning that the county will reach the target set by the European Union Action Plan for Organic Farming before 2030, Director of the County Directorate for Agriculture (DAJ) Mirela Miller told AGERPRES on Wednesday.
Official data show that 458 economic operators have registered in organic farming with a total area of 87,277.44 hectares, representing 23.8% of the county's agricultural area.
'I believe we will reach that 25% target set for organic farming before 2030. Our area is subject to restrictions, especially within the perimeter of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve,' Mirela Miller said.
Of the more than 87,000 hectares under organic farming, 61,649.38 hectares are organically certified, 14,148.49 hectares are in the first year of conversion, 11,333.93 hectares are in the second year of conversion and 145.64 hectares are in the final year of conversion.
By comparison, in 2021, 375 economic operators registered a total area of 68,302.06 hectares in organic farming, in the following year 333 operators had 66,753.31 hectares registered in organic farming, in 2023, 399 operators had a total area of 71,816.39 hectares and in 2024, 440 operators registered an area of 79,613.75 hectares in organic farming.
In total, 617 operators are registered in organic farming in the county, most of them, namely 525, being agricultural producers and the fewest, namely two, being aquaculture production units. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Luisiana Bigea; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
