ELI-NP laser facility at Magurele launches Gamma Beam System
The Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP), the laser facility at Magurele, is entering the operational phase of the Gamma Beam System, the National Authority for Research announced on Wednesday.
'Once again on the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics platform in Magurele... we return for an important moment of the project: the launch of the implementation of the Gamma Beam System. The event is taking place at the IFIN-HH/ELI-NP Conference Centre and marks the transition from the design and contracting stage to the effective implementation phase of one of the most complex research systems within the ELI-NP infrastructure,' representatives of the National Authority for Research informed on Facebook.
According to the quoted source, the project, co-financed by the European Commission through the European Regional Development Fund and by the Government of Romania, positions Romania at the core of European research in nuclear physics and nuclear photonics.
'The scientific community expects from the completion and commissioning of the Gamma Beam System not only top technical performance in terms of beam intensity, stability and resolution, but also the consolidation of a research ecosystem capable of generating internationally competitive results,' the same source says.
The implementation of the system will enable the development of experiments that have so far been impossible to carry out in the region and will strengthen Romania's role as a credible partner in major European research infrastructures.
'Today's event thus marks the beginning of a decisive stage: transforming a major investment into a functional scientific instrument with real impact on fundamental research and applications of societal relevance,' the quoted source points out.
