Bobsleigh athletes Tenea, Iordache achieve Romania's best result at Winter Olympic Games in 34yrs
Bobsleigh athletes Mihai Cristian Tentea and George Iordache achieved Romania's best result at the Winter Olympic Games in the past 34 years, finishing fifth in the men's two-man bobsleigh event on Tuesday evening in Milan-Cortina.
Tentea and Iordache maintained the position they held on Monday after the first two runs, though they could have hoped for more had they not recorded only the tenth-fastest time in the opening run.
The Romanian duo were clocked with a combined time of 3 min 42.37 sec, which is Romania's best result at the Winter Olympic Games since 1992 in Albertville, when Ioan Apostol and Liviu Cepoi finished fourth in the men's doubles luge event. Tentea and Iordache surpassed the sixth-place finish achieved by the same two lugers in 1994 in Lillehammer.
The podium was an all-German affair, with gold going to Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer in 3 min 39.70 sec. Silver was won by Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schuller in 3 min 41.04 sec, while bronze went to Adam Ammour and Alexander Schaller in 3 min 41.52 sec.
Friedrich won gold in both the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events in 2018 and 2022, while Lochner took silver four years ago. The others made their Olympic debut in Cortina.
