Romania is represented at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos by Foreign Minister Oana Toiu, Minister of European Investment and Projects Dragos Pislaru, Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan, and presidential adviser Radu Burnete.

According to the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE), the simultaneous presence of three Romanian ministers as speakers in official sessions 'allows a relevant contribution of Romania in the current global debates that cover important areas for Romania: energy competitiveness, foreign investment, social cohesion and security on the eastern flank.'

The interest in the participation of some Romanian officials indicates the increased relevance of Romania and the region, says MAE.

Toiu delivered speeches to two panels within the forum. In the session 'Staying Grounded in an Age of Uncertainty,' the minister pleaded for pragmatic diplomacy and for positioning Romania as a country open to sharing its experience. The minister mentioned Romania's rapid transition, which increased its gross domestic product tenfold in a generation.

During the panel 'Can Russia Sustain a Wartime Economy?', Toiu analysed the long-term impact of the war economy on regional stability and Romania's role as a security provider in the Black Sea, including for trade flows, as an energy producer and as a country that supports the aspirations of the states in the region to join the European Union.

Toiu participated in strategic meetings, working meetings at the level of prime ministers, foreign ministers, with the delegation from the U.S. Congress and experts from the security community and academia, working sessions that focused on the transatlantic partnership as a priority.

Bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the forum with counterparts and high-ranking officials achieved Romania's objectives of security, accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), economic growth and support for the European future of the region, as well as multilateral formats. The minister held talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu, Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, as well as leader of the Belarusian democratic forces Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. Also, Toiu had bilateral meetings with European commissioners and directors of key international organisations such as NATO, OSCE, the European Space Agency and UNESCO.

Minister of European Investment and Projects Dragos Pislaru, participated on Thursday, as a speaker, in the session 'How Housing Became a Bottleneck.' The discussion addressed the major impact of housing policies on labour mobility and economic growth, with Pislaru saying that investment in housing infrastructure generate a significant multiplier effect in the economy.

Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan will speak on Thursday during the panel 'Can Europe Compete on Clean Power?', a debate that addresses Europe's ability to keep up its industrial competitiveness in the global race for green energy.
