Arrivals and overnight stays in Romania's accommodation units decline in the first ten months of 2025
In the first ten months of this year, the arrivals in the establishments of tourists' reception, including apartments and rooms for rent, declined by 1.9% compared with the same period of 2024, while the overnight stays dropped by 1.1%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Friday.
According to official statistics, between 1 January and 31 October 2025, the number of arrivals reached 12.073 million, of which Romanian tourists accounted for 81.8% and foreign visitors 18.2%.
At the same time, the overnight stays recorded in the establishments of tourists' reception (including apartments and rooms for rent) totalled 26.137 million, of which Romanian tourists accounted for 82.8%, while overnight stays by foreign visitors represented 17.2%.
The average duration of stay during the first ten months of 2025 was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and two days for foreign visitors.
By county, the highest numbers of tourists' arrivals in the establishments of tourists' reception were recorded in Constanta (1.77 million), Bucharest Municipality (1.699 million) and Brasov (1.175 million).
At the same time, overnight stays recorded significant figures in Constanta (5.458 million), Bucharest (3.410 million) and Brasov (2.221 million).
Regarding the number of foreign tourists' arrivals in Romania, the largest groups came from Germany (216,400), Italy (184,500) and Israel (145,300).
Compared with October 2024, in the same month this year, the arrivals recorded in the establishments of tourists' reception, including apartments and rooms for rent, decreased by 2.9%, while the number of overnight stays fell by 2.6%.
Thus, the arrivals recorded in the establishments of tourists' reception (including apartments and rooms for rent) in October 2025 totalled 1.121 million, down 2.9% compared with October of the previous year.
Of the total arrivals, Romanian tourists in the establishments of tourists' reception with functions of tourists' accommodation accounted for 77.4%, while foreign visitors represented 22.6%.
The overnight stays recorded in the establishments of tourists' reception (including apartments and rooms for rent) in October 2025 totalled 2,262.3 thousand, down 2.6% compared with October 2024.
Of the total overnight stays in October 2025, those of Romanian tourists in the establishments of tourists' reception with functions of tourists' accommodation accounted for 77.2%, while overnight stays by foreign visitors represented 22.8%.
