Tennis: Five courts upgraded for first ATP Challenger tournament held in Targu Mures
The INTARO Sport base in Targu Mures announced on Tuesday the renovation and upgrading of five tennis courts in the city to international standards, in anticipation of hosting the INTARO Open - ATP Challenger 50 in September, the first ATP Challenger tournament ever held in this municipality.
'Targu Mures is entering the big league of world tennis - INTARO Sport is bringing the first ATP Challenger tournament in the city's history (...). Targu Mures now has a new place where tennis shines at its true value - the INTARO Sport Base. We have transformed the courts on Insulei Street no. 1 into a modern space, designed for both professional players and all those who love tennis: 5 fully renovated clay courts, state-of-the-art floodlighting (over 1,000 lux - matches like on the major arenas!), digital scoreboards and premium sound system, seating for 400 spectators. All these are not just ‘technical features'; they are the ingredients that make history happen in Targu Mures. In September, the city will host its first two consecutive ATP Challenger tournaments - INTARO Open (8-14 September 2025) and INTARO Open 2 (15-21 September 2025),' announced the INTARO Sport Club Association on Facebook.
The first ATP Challenger 50 tournament, named INTARO Open, taking place between 8-14 September, will make Targu Mures the fifth city in Romania to host an ATP tournament, alongside Bucharest, Iasi, Sibiu and Brasov.
According to the association, in less than a year, INTARO Sport has organised four landmark tournaments for the city, raising standards and shaping an increasingly visible international profile: INTARO Trophy (M15) - the first tournament organised by INTARO Sport (September 2024), M25 Targu Mures powered by INTARO Sport - the city's first-ever ITF M25 tournament (June 2025), INTARO Elite Cup - W75 - the most important women's tournament ever held in Targu Mures (March 2025), INTARO Open - ATP Challenger 50 - the city's first hosted ATP Challenger tournament (September 2025).
