Baron Franz Nopcsa's Castle to open its doors on September 1 with its inaugural temporary exhibition

Image

Nopcsa Castle in the village of Sacel will reopen to the public on September 1 with its inaugural temporary exhibition, as specialists from the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization (MCDR) in Deva are preparing the interior spaces and arrange the artifacts to be displayed.

'The exhibition will give visitors the opportunity to discover the history and architecture of Nopcsa Castle, featuring heritage objects from the museum's collections specially selected for this occasion. These elements illustrate the castle's connection to local history and to the notable personalities who have shaped its past,' MCDR announced on Tuesday.

The castle once belonged to Baron Franz Nopcsa, known as a scientist and the first discoverer of dwarf dinosaur fossils in the Hateg Country.

Visitors will be able to admire the castle's architecture — recently restored through an extensive renovation — and learn stories about the figures who have left their mark on the monument's history.

According to MCDR Deva, the exhibition will mark the beginning of a series of cultural and educational projects aimed at transforming Nopcsa Castle into an important attraction for residents of the county as well as visitors from across the country.

The restoration works on Nopcsa Castle in Sacel village, Hunedoara County, were completed in June 2024, nearly five years after they began. The building has been prepared both for integration into the tourism circuit and for hosting scientific meetings.

To rehabilitate the historic building, the Hunedoara County Council secured government funds through the National Program for Local Development (PNDL) 2 program and also allocated resources from its own budget. The total investment amounted to 11.5 million lei. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Sorin Blada; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
