Code Yellow heat warnings covering three-quarters of Romania until Thursday morning
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued new Code Yellow heat warnings on Tuesday, which will remain in effect until Thursday morning and will cover over three-quarters of the country.
According to meteorologists, the first Code Yellow warning for hot weather will be in force from 24 June at 10:00 a.m. to 25 June at 10:00 a.m., affecting Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, southern Moldova, south-western Transylvania, and most of Dobruja. In these areas, maximum temperatures will generally range between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius. Thermal discomfort will be high, with the temperature-humidity index (THI) expected to exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.
In addition, the night will be warm, with minimum temperatures ranging between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius.
The counties affected by this Code Yellow warning are: Alba, Arges, Braila, Buzau, Calarasi, Caras-Severin, Constanta, Dambovita, Dolj, Gorj, Galati, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Ilfov, Ialomita, Mehedinti, Olt, Prahova, Sibiu, Tulcea, Timis, Teleorman, Valcea, Vrancea and the Municipality of Bucharest.
Between 25 June at 10:00 a.m. and 26 June at 10:00 a.m., a second Code Yellow warning for heat will be in effect across most regions. Thus, heatwave conditions and increased thermal discomfort will affect Banat, Crisana, Oltenia, Muntenia, southern Moldova, continental Dobruja, and most of Transylvania.
In these areas, the THI will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units, and maximum temperatures will range from 34 to 38 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will be between 17 and 24 degrees Celsius, marking a tropical night in the southern and western parts of the country.
The second Code Yellow warning for exceptionally hot weather will apply to the following counties: Alba, Arges, Arad, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Braila, Brasov, Buzau, Cluj, Calarasi, Caras-Severin, Constanta, Covasna, Dambovita, Dolj, Gorj, Galati, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Ilfov, Ialomita, Mehedinti, Maramures, Mures, Olt, Prahova, Sibiu, Salaj, Satu Mare, Tulcea, Timis, Teleorman, Valcea, Vrancea and the Municipality of Bucharest.
