Code Yellow for snowfall, blizzard in mountain areas, mixed precipitations advisory in rest of Romania
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued new Code Yellow warnings on Friday for strong winds, blizzards and snowfall, valid until Saturday morning in several mountain areas. Additionally, a weather advisory has been issued for mixed precipitation and ice, affecting most regions until Sunday morning.
According to meteorologists, between 10:00 and 22:00 on Friday, a Code Yellow warning for wind is in effect in Banat, Crisana, the western and southern parts of Oltenia, Dobrogea, the north-east of Muntenia and the south-east of Moldavia, with gusts reaching speeds of 50-60 km/h.
Another Code Yellow warning for snow and blizzard conditions is valid from 10:00 on April 11 until 10:00 on April 12 in mountainous regions, where a fresh snow layer of 10-20 cm is expected in some areas. Particularly in the high-altitude zones of the Southern Carpathians and the Curvature Carpathians, wind speeds will generally reach 60-80 km/h, resulting in blizzard conditions.
According to the specialist forecast, from Friday morning until 10:00 on Sunday, April 13, a weather advisory is in place for mixed precipitation, icy conditions, snowfall in mountainous areas, wind gusts, frost and ground frost, affecting nearly the entire country. During this time, snowfall will continue in the mountains, while in the rest of the country, light, mixed precipitation is expected, especially throughout Friday.
Locally, glazed frost is likely to form in mountainous areas and in the north and centre of the country. Temporary wind intensifications of 45-55 km/h are expected on Friday across most of the country and on Saturday in the east, south-east and mountainous regions.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, minimum temperatures in the north, centre and east of the country will range between -4 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius, with patches of frost and ground freezing expected in some areas.
