Bucharest, April 8 /Agerpres/ - Romania will host the 17th edition of the European Small Federation Games, a competition in which 500 bridge players will participate from May 11-13, the organizers inform in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

'Under the aegis of the European Bridge League (EBL) and the Romanian Bridge Federation (FRB), with the support of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) and the opinion of the National Agency for Sport, in partnership with the Contra Bridge Club, Romania will host the 17th edition of the European Small Federation Games. The event will take place between May 11 and May 13, 2025, at the prestigious Caro Hotel in Bucharest and will bring together the best national teams of the European bridge federations with less than 500 bridge players,' the cited source specifies.

Romania will be represented at this competition by the winning team of the national selection, consisting of Ionut Coldea, Iancu Bacalu, Mihai Grigoriu, Mircea Petrescu, Akos Ordog and Cornel Teodorescu.

'This is the second time that Romania, through the Romanian Bridge Federation, organizes an event of such magnitude, confirming the position and prestige of the Romanian bridge school on the international scene. The event marks Romania's return to the forefront of international bridge competitions, after Bucharest hosted the European Bridge Champions Cup in November 2019. EBL's decision to once again award the organization of this prestigious tournament to Romania is a recognition of the organizational quality and talent of the Romanian bridge players,' the organizers' press release added.

The top three ranked teams will receive awards and European Master Points (EMP), and the federation to which the winning team belongs will get the right to participate in the European Champions Cup in 2026. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Adrian Tone; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
