Romania to host largest European ski patrol meeting

Bucharest, Feb 25 /Agerpres/ - About 180 delegates from several countries will participate, between March 2 and 7, in the 4th ski patrol European FIPS meeting, the largest such event organised so far in Romania and the largest to be organised this year in Europe, in the field of mountain rescue.

'The event enjoys an exceptional participation, both in terms of number of countries and participants - with about 180 delegates from the UK, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Macedonia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, Romania. Although it is a European conference, seven delegations from the USA have requested to be registered for this event. Also, the two practical days in the field will be attended by the 53 future mountain rescuers who, during that period, will be attending the professional training courses of the National Mountain Rescue School,' Romania's Salvamont mountain rescue service reported on Tuesday in a social media post.

The works will take place both indoors and outdoors, provided by renowned specialists at European level and will touch on topics of interest, new research in the field and presentation of state-of-the-art equipment specific to providing first aid, rescue and transport both in the areas arranged for practicing winter sports, as well as in the rest of the mountain area, being a good opportunity for Romanian and foreign rescuers to exchange experience at the highest professional level.

As part of the field work, practical workshops will be organised providing medical first aid and transporting the injured on the ski slopes and off-piste, organising avalanche rescue, avalanche search with electronic devices and rescue dogs, using drones in search and rescue, transporting equipment and generating signal, rescue from cable transport facilities.

Also, weather permitting, rescue demonstrations will be presented featuring the EC135 and BlackHawk medical evacuation helicopters made available to the mountain rescuers by the Emergency Management Department and the General Aviation Inspectorate.

World-renowned manufacturers will be there with their own presentation and testing stands or through their distributors in Romania.

The event is organised by the National Association of Mountain Rescuers in Romania together with the International Federation of Ski Patrols - a body that regulates this field internationally - with Vodafone Romania and Sinaia City Hall as partners.
