Border police carries out 1,400,000 checks in eDAC application in the 10 months since entering Schengen

The Romanian border police carried out more than 1,400,000 checks in the eDAC application during missions at the airports across the country, in the ten months since Romania joined the Schengen Area with air and sea borders, discovering 877 crimes and 894 misdemeanors worth 1,705,050 RON.
''Between March 31, 2024, and January 31, 2025, the border police carried out more than 1,400,000 checks in the eDAC application during missions at the airports across the country, to establish the identity and legal situation of persons, but also to prevent and combat possible illegal acts. In all cases, the persons were taken over by the relevant structures in order to take the legal measures in force or their journey was interrupted,'' the General Inspectorate of the Border Police (IGPF) said in a press release to AGERPRES on Saturday.
Among the most recent discoveries are the case of a 17-year-old Romanian citizen, who identified herself with a passport that did not belong to her, as well as the case of a man wanted by the authorities.
As of March 31, 2024, border policemen operating at the airports and seaports will no longer carry out border controls for persons traveling to and from states in the Schengen Area. Also, as of January 1, 2025, with Romania's full accession to Schengen, internal border controls, namely at the border with Hungary and Bulgaria, have been eliminated.
''However, our staff, together with colleagues from the police, immigration and gendarmerie, carry out punctual and unannounced police actions to verify the identity and legal situation of persons, but also to prevent and combat possible illegal acts. For efficiency, the structures of the Ministry of Interior use mobile devices that use the eDAC application, connected to the databases of the Romanian authorities and those in the Schengen Area,'' the same source shows.
Thus, over March 31, 2024 - January 31, 2025, the border police carried out, in total, over 1,400,000 checks in the eDAC application at airports throughout the country, with 877 crimes and 894 misdemeanors recorded in the amount of 1,705,050 RON.
Also, in the last month, border police were forced to interrupt the journey of approximately 20 Romanian minors who intended to travel from airports to Schengen countries, but did not meet the travel conditions.
The mixed control teams formed by workers from the Ministry of Interior will continue to be vigilant and carry out punctual and unannounced police actions within airports and ports to prevent and combat possible illegal acts, as well as in the area of their jurisdiction - 30 km from the border line inland, to verify the identity and legal situation of persons and the entire national territory to combat migration, the same source also shows.
