Ciolacu: Only one candidate in the polls - Crin Antonescu; PSD must organise congress

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Monday said that only one candidate in the presidential elections will be in the polls, and that the election calendar is a very fair one, taking into account the Easter Holidays.

'We have set it together with Mr. Bolojan [National Liberal Party interim chairman]. First we get the poll results and then there is a CNP [National Political Council] meeting for validation. It is a very fair one [the election calendar], because otherwise it would have overlapped the Easter Holidays. (...) One cannot set the voting day on Palm Sunday or even on Easter Day. We have set the days of [May] 4 and 18. Today we validate them, this week we pass the OUG [Government Emergency Ordinance]. The decision has been made - in the poll there will be only one candidate - Crin Antonescu. Then there is a CNP and then there is... PSD must organise a congress. It can organise a joint congress with those of PNL and UDMR [Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania],' Ciolacu said at the PSD headquarters.

He mentioned he had a telephone conversation with the Finance minister in the morning.

The Social Democrats gathered on Monday in a National Political Council meeting to validate the calendar for the presidential election. AGERPRES (RO - author: Catalina Matei, editor: Mihai Simionescu; EN - editor: Adina Panaitescu)
