Ilie Bolojan - elected Senate President
National Liberal Party (PNL) interim president Ilie Bolojan on Monday was elected President of the Senate.
Ilie Bolojan received 70 votes, while his opponents, Mircia Chelaru (the Alliance for the Union of Romanians - AUR) and Nadia-Cosmina Cerva (SOS Romania), obtained 29 votes and 14 votes, respectively.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) parliamentary groups did not propose a candidate for this position.
Additionally, the Save Romania Union (USR) did not propose a candidate for the position of Senate President either.
Neither did the Party of Young People (POT) parliamentary group present a candidate for this role.
Each of the three candidates for the Senate presidency presented themselves at the microphone of the chamber.
AUR Senator Mircia Chelaru provided details about his military and political career, Ilie Bolojan (PNL) emphasised his 20 years of experience in administration, while SOS Romania Senator Nadia-Cosmina Cerva said she was a lawyer.
