Romanian Film Days in Stockholm/Four Romanian films from past year to be screened on November 2 - 3
Four Romanian films from the past year will be screened on November 2 and 3 in the capital of Sweden, as part of the Romanian Film Days in Stockholm.
The event is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Romanian Revolution.
At the Zita Cinema in central Stockholm, the following films will be screened with English subtitles and free admission for the general public: the feature film "Libertate" (Freedom) (2023), with director Tudor Giurgiu attending; "Saptamana Mare" (Holy Week) (2024), with director Andrei Cohn participating; "Familiar" (2023), by Calin Peter Netzer; and the hybrid documentary "Intre revolutii" (Between Revolutions) (2023), by Vlad Petri, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
The festival curator is film critic Ionut Mares, who will present the films and moderate discussions with the guests.
"It is natural that a recent and significant historical moment such as the 1989 Revolution continues to spark the interest of Romanian filmmakers. 'Libertate' offers a new and human perspective, reconstructing moments of the Revolution in Sibiu. 'Intre revolutii' provides a broader view by mirroring the Iranian Revolution alongside the Romanian Revolution. 'Familiar' also addresses the effects of the communist past on the present, this time within a dysfunctional family, while 'Saptamana Mare' takes us to another pivotal moment, at the beginning of the 20th century," said Ionut Mares.
"Libertate," directed by Tudor Giurgiu, will be screened on Saturday, November 2, at 20:45 in the main hall of the Zita Cinema. "Libertate" was part of last year's Sarajevo Film Festival competition and has received numerous nominations and awards at the Gopo Gala this year, including trophies for Best Film and Best Direction, as well as the "Lucian Pintilie" Direction Award granted by the Romanian Cultural Institute at the Romanian Filmmakers Union (UCIN) Gala.
The hybrid documentary "Intre revolutii," by Vlad Petri, will be screened on Sunday, November 3, at 21:00, also in the main hall of the Zita Cinema. It won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Forum section at last year's Berlin Festival and has since been selected for numerous other festivals.
"Familiar," by Calin Peter Netzer, will be shown in the small hall of the Zita Cinema on Saturday, November 2, at 18:15. The film premiered in competition at the 2023 Black Nights Festival in Tallinn.
"Saptamana Mare," the new film by director Andrei Cohn, premiered in the Forum section at this year's Berlin Festival. It will be screened on Sunday at 17:00 in the main hall of the Zita Cinema. AGERPRES (RO - author: Georgiana Tanasescu, editor: Claudia Stanescu; EN - editor: Adina Panaitescu)
