Scores evacuated in northern Maramures due to vegetation fire
Ninety people have been evacuated, the secretary of state in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Raed Arafat, announced on Saturday, adding that a plane of the Ministry of National Defense left for northern Maramures, where a vegetation fire has broken out.
He added that there is also a gas station in the area, but "the flames are still far" from it.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) informs that in order to extinguish the vegetation fire in the area of the Maramures towns of Lapusel, Coltau and Ariesu de Padure, the increase in operational capacity to level I has been ordered, with firefighters on free shifts being called, as well as colleagues from the counties neighbouring areas, and the total number of active military firefighters is over 150.
At the same time, according to the source, given the fact that Black Hawk aircraft intervene in southwestern Mehedinti County in order to limit the vegetation fires in the area, at the level of the Department for Emergency Situations, a measure was taken to request air support from the Ministry of National Defense, in order to intervene with equipped aircraft, in order to limit the spread of outbreaks in other areas as well.
A fire of dry vegetation started on the pasture between the localities of Lapusel, Coltau and Ariesu de Padure and got out of control and spread, on Saturday afternoon, to nearby houses, seven households and a diesel tank being affected, the representatives of the IGSU Maramures previously informed. According to a subsequent information from the IGSU, approximately 90 people were evacuated, as a precaution, from the homes located within a radius of approximately 500 meters, as well as from a guesthouse located in the vicinity of the fire.AGERPRES(RO - editor: Catalina Matei; EN - editor: Maria Voican)
