Bizet's opera 'Carmen,' directed by Ada Hausvater, opening Bucharest National Opera's new season
The premiere of Georges Bizet's opera 'Carmen,' directed by Ada Hausvater, opens the new season of the Bucharest National Opera on 1 October at 18:30.
According to a press release the organisers sent to AGERPRES, the following performances, also billed as premieres, are scheduled for 2 and 3 October, at the same time.
The production is being staged at a symbolic moment: 2025 marks 150 years since the world premiere of Carmen, which took place on 3 March 1875 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris.
'Carmen's story is that of a free woman, equally a leader and a risk-taker, a woman who is honest and consistent in all her choices. She acts, she declares her intentions, and she follows through with the rules she sets, without deviation,' said Ada Hausvater, as quoted in the release.
General Manager of the Bucharest National Opera Daniel Jinga thanked Ada Hausvater for staging the production, noting that 'it is a work of art, an artistic creation, and, at the same time, I know it is a 'Carmen' that will be well received by the public.'
'Today, 'Carmen' is one of the most frequently staged operas in the world. As artists, it is our duty to carry forward the fascinating and moving story of a woman who sang of love in the most beautiful words: L'amour est un oiseau rebelle...,' added conductor Ciprian Teodorascu.
Tickets can be purchased from http://tickets.operanb.ro and at the Box Office of the Bucharest National Opera.
