ProEtnica2025: Romanians, majority embracing dialogue with other identities, through music and artistic expression
The presence of Romanian folk ensembles and artists at the 21st edition of the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival 2025, which begins in Sighisoara on Wednesday, sends a message that the majority population embraces dialogue with other identities through music and accessible artistic expression, according to the event organisers.
'Although the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival is dedicated to the historical minorities of Romania, each edition traditionally includes a moment of artistic expression by the majority population, the Romanians, who, through the diversity of musical forms and cultural expression, complete the ethnic mosaic of the event. (...) Through this appearance, Romanians make their presence felt not as a counterpoint, but as an integral part of the festival's spirit: a majority that embraces dialogue with other identities through music and artistic expressions accessible to all,' the leadership of the Interethnic Educational and Cultural Youth Centre (ibz) in Sighisoara, organiser of the ProEtnica Festival, says on the event's website.
At this year's edition, scheduled between 27 and 31 August in Sighisoara, the Romanian presence will be marked by a pop music recital by Nicu Posta, suggestively titled 'The Harmony of the Tarnava Rivers.' The artist will take to the stage alongside Doina Pintea, Cristian Rupa and folk band Taraful Tarnavele, offering the public a performance that blends modern pop sounds with the folk roots of the Transylvanian region.
According to the same source, 'The Harmony of the Tarnava Rivers' will not only be a musical performance, but also a symbolic statement, conveying that 'diversity can be authentically celebrated only when every voice, including that of the majority, finds its natural place in Romania's multicultural concert.'
Volker Reiter, Director of the Interethnic Educational and Cultural Youth Centre (ibz) in Sighisoara, told AGERPRES that the Romanian majority has participated in every edition of the ProEtnica Intercultural Festival. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Dorina Matis; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
