The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, thanked Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu for Romania's numerous contributions to the Alliance, during the 20 years of NATO membership, emphasizing, among other things, that our country invests over 2% of GDP in defense and hosts a NATO multinational battle group.

The Secretary General of NATO met, on Monday, at the headquarters of the Alliance in Brussels, with the Romanian Prime Minister, the meeting being followed by joint press statements.

Rutte also highlighted the fact that Romania contributes troops to NATO missions in Kosovo, Iraq and other places.

"Therefore, Romania is not only strengthening the security of NATO's Eastern Flank, but also much further," declared Rutte.

In the same context, the NATO Secretary General mentioned that the discussions with Prime Minister Ciolacu aimed at continuing the support given to Ukraine, emphasizing that Romania was "a firm friend of Ukraine", providing critical military aid, including a Patriot air defense system, and signing a 10-year bilateral security agreement.

At the same time, the secretary-general condemned violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones and missiles, saying they were "reckless, dangerous and unacceptable" and adding that "NATO has strengthened its air defenses on its eastern flank and the Allies as we speak , is acquiring hundreds of fifth-generation fighter jets.

Finally, Mark Rutte gave assurances that NATO remains committed to the defense of the Eastern Flank of the Alliance.

"I can tell you, Mr. Prime Minister, NATO takes security in the Black Sea region very seriously. We are ready to protect and defend all allies," Mark Rutte said.AGERPRES(RO - author: Daniel Florea, editor: Mihai Simionescu; EN - editor: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
