In recent years, the Black Sea has become a crucial area for Europe's security and a space where Romania asserts its strategic interests and charts its future, President Nicusor Dan said in a message delivered on Saturday, on Romanian Navy Day.

'On the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God, I wish you peace of mind and joy alongside your loved ones. To those celebrating their name day today, happy birthday, good health and fulfilment. Today we also celebrate Navy Day. Since time immemorial, those who have gone to sea have taken with them, alongside courage, faith that they will return home safely. In recent years, the Black Sea has become a crucial area for Europe's security and the place from which one of our most important responsibilities for European security begins. A space where Romania asserts its strategic interests and charts its future,' Nicusor Dan wrote on Facebook.

He noted that the Black Sea also means trade, energy and connectivity.

'Constanta Port, the Danube, the shipbuilding industry and energy resources together represent one of the most important strategic opportunities Romania has had in recent decades. We therefore need vision and consistency to turn the Black Sea region into one of the main engines of our country's development,' the head of state stressed.

He also wished to thank all military and civilian sailors on this day of celebration.

'They have chosen a profession that requires discipline, competence and courage. The sea never makes concessions, and those who know it learn that trust is earned through training, solidarity and respect for colleagues and the mission.
