Costinesti mayoral election nullified, rerun set for July 7
The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on Tuesday nullified the election for the position of mayor of Costinesti, Constanta County, and ordered a rerun for July 7.
BEC accepted to take up a request for nullification of the Costinesti mayoral election filed by the Constanta chapter of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
"It is hereby nullifying the election for the position of mayor of Electoral Constituency number 29 Costinesti, Constanta County, held on June 9, 2024. Ordering a rerun on July 7, 2024 ," reads the BEC decision.
In Costinesti, vote counting was repeated six times, and in the end the National Liberal Party (PNL) candidate was declared the winner to the detriment of the Social Democratic Party (PSD ) candidate, with a difference of one vote.
The situation of the election at Costinesti was put back into discussion at BEC, after the request for nullification of the election at the Electoral Constituency no. 29 Costinesti, filed by PSD.
In a petition submitted by the Costinesti District Electoral Bureau to BEC, several irregularities were mentioned, backed by supporting evidence, including the fact that two people, including a Ukrainian national, voted without having the right.
