Czech local-authority delegation welcomed by Prince Radu at Savarsin Castle, joint projects discussed

A delegation of mayors and local-community representatives from the Bojkovice region, Moravia (Czech Republic), was welcomed on Tuesday by Prince Radu at the Savarsin Royal Castle, with the development of joint projects among the topics discussed.

The delegation included the mayors of Nezdenice and Rudice, Libuše Bídová and Miroslava Chupíková, as well as the mayor of Bojkovice town, Petr Viceník. Also present were writer and publicist Vlastimir Hela, local councillor Pavel Homola, and entrepreneur Casian Suciu Šubert, the Romanian Royal Family said in a Facebook statement.

'The visit of the Czech local authorities to Banat aims to strengthen mutual understanding between local communities in the two countries and to develop joint projects in the fields of economy, tourism, heritage and culture,' the statement notes.

During the meeting, Romania's Ambassador to the Czech Republic Antoaneta Barta introduced the delegation and presented the historical link between the Romanian Army and the local communities represented at Savarsin, dating back to 1944 - 1945, when the Royal Romanian Army liberated Czech localities from Nazi occupation.

Mayors and civil-society representatives from the visiting localities also delivered remarks. The reception was attended by the mayor of Savarsin, Ioan Vodicean, and the Director of the Royal Foundation for Heritage and Development, Radu Ghina.

The programme included a meeting at Savarsin Town Hall, where the delegation discussed opportunities for administrative and cultural cooperation with the mayor and the local council.

Localities in the Bojkovice region were liberated during the Second World War by the Royal Romanian Army. As a sign of respect, the Czech local authorities maintain the monuments dedicated to the Romanian troops fallen in action in excellent condition.

Last year, on the 80th anniversary of the end of WW II, the crucial role of the Romanian Army in liberating Czechoslovakia was commemorated through large public ceremonies, fully supported by communities in Moravia.

According to the statement, the Romanian Royal Family has played a fundamental role in bilateral relations since the time of King Ferdinand.

Over the past two decades, there have been multiple visits to the Czech Republic, including those of King Mihai and Queen Anne in May 2005 and that of Custodian of the Crown of Romania Margareta in December 2010. Her Majesty also welcomed Czech heads of state at Elisabeta Palace: Miloš Zeman in May 2014 and Petr Pavel in May 2026. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Popescu; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
