PM Orban: Significant increase in COVID cases and risk of virus community transmission
Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said that in this period Romania is faced not just with a significant increase in the number of COVID cases, but also with a higher risk of community transmission of the virus, and he called again on all citizens to abide by the rules.
"We are faced with a significant increase not only in the number of cases, but also in the risk of the virus being transmitted inside communities. Whereas on June 1 we had at least one case in the last 14 days for 350 localities, today there is at least one case in 954 localities in the last 14 days, which means that there is a risk of transmission due to the presence of at least one infected person in more than 950 localities. This means a significant increase in the risk of transmission and calls for higher determination of the authorities in imposing all the necessary measures to limit the spread of the virus," PM Orban said at the end of today's video conference with the prefects on the management of the health crisis, following the coming in force of the quarantine and isolation law.
The Prime Minister added that he demanded firmness in the enforcement of the rules in all institutions and companies, regardless of their activity.
"Everyone must follow the rules. One of the preconditions for reducing the risk of virus transmission is the constant increase in the share of the population, in the number of Romanian citizens who follow the rules and who protect themselves and others from the spread of the virus. This must be done both through information campaigns and by imposing firm sanctions for those who do not respect the laws," Orban added.
